Our History
In 2020, a company approached Sesma, Sesma, and McNeese Law Firm in Monterrey, Mexico with a real problem. The company had been conducting business in Mexico and across the US/Mexico border for decades, but did not have a compliance program in place that actually verified that these Mexican and cross border trucking companies were who they said they were. The company needed transparency in an industry fraught with intentional ambiguity. The biproduct of Sesma, Sesma, and McNeese’s analysis was a system that vetted the company’s Mexican transportation partners against 18 key criterions beyond voluntary OEA (Mexico) and CTPAT (Cross Border) certifications. The updating of this system was a very manual process until Carlos Sesma linked up with Alfredo Lozano who owned LIS, which is the top Mexican TMS (Transportation Management System). Alfredo and his team automated the process for monitoring each motor carrier’s credentials, digitized it, and created a single pane of glass for the company to adopt as their real time Mexico carrier compliance program. LIS’s API enabled this data to be ingested by any TMS’s carrier management software. They also took it a step further to yield a freight matching platform between the company and their pre-vetted carriers. This platform became the #1 tool in Mexico for pre-vetted shippers, brokers, and carriers to connect and was named CertiCargo. Carlos and Alfredo began speaking on cross border and Mexico risk management panels in the US such as TIA. Here they were introduced to Mark Vickers. Mark had a logistics and logistics technology background. He was the Founder of Borderless Coverage (acquired by Reliance Partners), which provided the industry with access to an All Risk Cargo Insurance solution in Mexico. Mark joined Carlos and Alfredo as a Board Advisor. His guidance transformed Certicargo into Confianza, which opened the floodgates for US logistics firms to access pre-vetted Mexican carriers and cross border and Mexican freight matching technology for the first time in history.
Meet The Team
Mark Vickers
Mark spent over 7 years in leadership with the second largest freight brokerage in North America. During his tenure they went from $500 Million to $3 Billion in sales. Mark was an integral part in helping this company expand its footprint throughout North America through a wide variety of measures including opening offices in key cities and extending its brokerage services into Canada and Mexico.
From his time in freight brokerage, Mark recognized two pain points in the cross border supply chain:
1) The first was a need for real time freight visibility when moving cargo across the US border into Mexico. Mark figured this out through MacroPoint, which was a company he ended up joining. His contributions here led its sale to Descartes in 2017 for $107M USD.
2) The second was driven by requests from the Automative, Aerospace, Electronics, and Food & Beverage industries. These groups needed a Mexican Cargo Insurance product as Mexico carriers do not carry Motor Truck Cargo Insurance as they do in the US and Canada. Mark founded Borderless Coverage (https://borderlesscoverage.com/) in 2018. Borderless provided the industry with access to All Risk Cargo Insurance in Mexico that included complete protection for theft. Borderless Coverage was acquired by Reliance Partners (https://reliancepartners.com/) in 2021.
In 2023, Mark was placed on a TIA panel with Carlos Sesma of Sesma, Sesma, and McNeese and Alfredo Lozano of LIS Software Solutions to discuss the gold standard for cross border risk management. Carlos and Alfredo shared with Mark that they had built an automated platform called CertiCargo for vetting Mexican carriers which also allowed these pre-vetted groups to interact by exchanging rates and capacity. When Carlos and Alfredo showed Mark the 18 criteria that they were vetting these carriers on beyond voluntary CTPAT (Cross Border) and OEA (Mexico) certifications and how this data was then integrable with any TMS, he was floored. Mark shared that he and Reliance Partners needed this tool to show insurance companies how Mexican carriers were being vetted, so that he could offer better and new insurance products to the cross border industry. Mark also shared with Carlos and Alfredo that this platform was an essential risk management tool for any US company that is conducting cross border and Intra-Mexico transportation as it was the best resource he had seen for vetting Mexican carriers. Mark joined CertiCargo as a board member in 2024. With Mark’s guidance, Carlos and Alfredo rolled out CertiCargo to the US logistics industry in 2025 and Confianza was born.
